The day the unity was declared between Egyptian Islamic Jihad (headed by Dr Ayman) and Al Qaeda, Dr Ayman al Zawahiri addressed Usama bin Ladin, with words such as:

“We came vowing allegiance and extending our hands to you. Along with us, extended the hands of dead ones with no graves, prisoners in unknown prisons, mothers who don’t know where their sons are, widows who don’t know where their husbands are and orphans who don’t know about their parents. They all came to vow allegiance to you, asking for no benefit or booty in return. Asking you only to take revenge against those who oppressed them. And we came to you with our sorrows and distress, owning nothing and asking for no position nor spoils but to fight in the path of Allah until we attain either victory or martyrdom.”
